President, Board of School Commissioners, Baltimore City, 1967-70. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, June 20, 1920. Attended Baltimore City College; The Johns Hopkins University, A.B., 1941 (Phi Beta Kappa); Harvard University Law School, LL.B., cum laude, 1948 (editor, Harvard Law Review). Admitted to Maryland and Pennsylvania Bars, 1949. Served in U.S. Navy, 1942-46 (inactive duty as lieutenant, U.S. Naval Reserve, 1946-49). Member, American and Maryland State Bar Associations; American College of Trial Lawyers. Board of Trustees, The Johns Hopkins University, 1976-90. Chair, Walters Art Gallery, 1979-85 (president, 1964-79; chair emeritus, 1985-2000). Author, "From Figment to Fiction to Philosophy: The Requirement of Proof of Damages in Libel Actions" 22 Catholic University Law Review 1 (1972); "Ave Defamation, Atque Vale Libel and Slander," 6 University of Baltimore Law Review, 27 (1976); and "Preserving the Record in Anticipation of Appeal", The Maryland Appellate Practice Handbook, vol. 1: B-1 (1978). Died in Baltimore, Maryland, August 31, 2000.
