The Commission to Study Southern Maryland Transportation Needs was authorized in 2006 (Chapter 14, Acts of 2006). The Commission is to review past studies by State transportation agencies; assess traffic congestion in Southern Maryland, including barriers to transportation improvements; and make recommendations for roadway improvements, mass transit development, and potential funding mechanisms.
Although authorization for the Commission extended through June 30, 2008, the Commission may reconvene to further study its findings and alter its draft recommendations (Chapters 27 & 28, Acts of 2008).
