The Governor's Commission on Quality Education was created in September 2004 (Executive Order 01.01.2004.52).

The Commission charge was to examine and make recommendations on: enhancing the effectiveness of teachers and principals; linking schools with their communities; incorporating best practices to effectively prepare students for postsecondary education and career success; and improving school readiness and early childhood programs.

Work of the Commission was organized under four subcommittees.
