The Task Force on Common Ownership Communities was authorized in June 2005 (Chapter 469, Acts of 2005). The Task Force was charged to study issues pertinent to common ownership communities, which include condominiums, cooperative housing corporations, and homeowners' associations. Such issues encompass: the education and training needs of common ownership community boards and prospective buyers; availability of alternative dispute resolution services; collecting assessments; and resale of homes within common ownership communities. The Task Force also considered whether to adopt statewide the provisions of the Uniform Common Interest Ownership Act (1994) drafted by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.

The Task Force reported to the Governor and General Assembly in December 2006. Authorization for the Task Force extended to December 31, 2006.
