The Task Force on Charitable Giving (known as Maryland Gives!) formed in 1996 (Chapter 383, Acts of 1996). The Task Force was to develop a strategy to increase contributions to charities in Maryland by individuals and corporations.

Under the Task Force, four subcommittees organized. They analyzed the effect of increased charitable contributions on the Maryland economy; determined the best way to use public relations resources; compiled data about charitable giving and activity in Maryland; and studied Maryland tax laws and State policies affecting charitable donations.

Authorization for the Task Force ended December 1, 2001 (Code 1957, Art. 41, sec. 18-310).
